The Parents of Haringey's Noel Park Children's Centre have been active in various campaigns for building community cohesion on a housing estate, and they have always been keen to involve their children in these endeavours. The project which won them an It's Your Community award served the dual purpose of bringing families in the neighbourhood together and at the same time teaching the children to care for their environment. The award was used to buy equipment to turn vegetable scraps from the Community Cafe, shredded paper from the Children's Centre and local offices, and grass clippings from some local gardens into compost Two compost tumblers were acquired making this an excellent recycling and educational growing project for children and adults alike.
