Project Details
The Site started out as an IT area of Southlanders Community Cafe, where the older generation can meet up, chat, and take advantage of computers. Initially designed to open up access to basic computer skills it has very quickly expanded to providing other services. The way it works, is that an organisation decides that its users could benefit from The Site visiting their location. The Site will then come to them, offering the services of ‘technoguru’ Matt. Matt will set up The Site and provide support throughout the session, then pack up and go away again. All the organisation has to do is supply is a wall socket! But 5 laptops, printers, VHS transfers and other equipment must be carted around so they need to purchase a van to enable greater outreach. Shoreham is less prosperous than nearby Brighton and Hove, but that hasn’t stopped them showing initiative. As Its’ Your Community likes to support communities trying to do things for themselves we are pleased to make this award.
