Project Details

RDA Isle of Wight Carriage Driving for the Disabled brings ponies to Cowes and uses Osborne House as a venue from spring to autumn. As Osborne House is a National Trust property the group is allowed to use the land free of charge, meeting there every Wednesday morning. RDA I.o.W Carriage Driving for the Disabled offers disabled people the opportunity to drive a pony and carriage, and by all accounts it is wonderful to see the enjoyment that driving gives them - many disabled people feel that driving the ponies gives them a greater sense of freedom to move about, and that feels liberating for them. The Isle of Wight group is able to offer places to about 30-40 people each year, some of whom can be as young as twelve. Their joy and pleasure in being able to take a pony out for a drive is also plain to see on their faces, so It’s Your Community is more than happy to support this project. Their award will be used to purchase a second small pony carriage that will give big pleasure a lot of people.
