Project Details
The Dumers Estate has many challenging issues on its plate. With large numbers of young people with not a lot to do, the estate experiences predictable results in the form of anti-social behaviour. In order to encourage young people to take ownership and pride in where they live, the Tenants & Residents Association will organise a clean-up, where youngsters will take on a major role. This will involve sweeping, cleaning, collecting litter and assisting people to get items to a skip. A community garden will be the site of planting and weeding sessions, and flyers put up inviting any elderly or vulnerable residents to have a hanging basket or plant pot made and installed. This project will build relationships, encourage youngsters to be more responsible, and help them to feel more valued too. A similar initiative was carried out on a nearby estate last year which worked out brilliantly, so hopefully this It’s Your Community award of £750 will achieve similar results on the Dumers Estate.
