Project Details
Deemed unsafe due to bomb damage in World War Two, four terraced streets in Belfast's Mersey Street consisting of shops, a school and two Churches were bulldozed, ripping the heart out of the community, whose residents were left to look onto a bleak landscape of screed and rocks. John McCandless from the Rivers Community Project realised how badly those people left in the community needed re-connect with their blighted neighbourhood and have an event that would lift their spirits. With the help of It's Your Community they commissioned a local artist to create a series of mosaics, as well as installing planters and signage which tells the story of a community that had to be bulldozed for reasons of safety.
