Project Details

It is usually difficult to get teenagers interested in sport, but rock-it-ball is something that can capture their imagination. It is a new sport, a cross between dodge ball and Lacrosse played with a stick and balls. It is also an ideal game for families as it can be played by all ages, fitness levels and abilities. Southend Sharks has recently been set up by a group of family friends at the Chase Leisure Centre in Westecliffe, and it has been taking off in a big way. It’s a great way to keep young people off the streets at night while they have fun getting fit in a safe environment. Over 20 people are already signed up and most of them have friends that also want to come along, so the club is sure to grow. And with Southend Borough Council helping to publicise the club through local school and libraries, perhaps they will even have a local league someday! Their It’s Your Community award will be spent on rock-it balls and safety equipment.
